Using a lamp (Sun), foam ball (Moon), and student volunteer (Earth), the class models waxing, waning, quarter, and full phases. Students sketch labeled diagrams of at least four phases in their notebooks, using vocabulary: orbit, illumination, crescent, gibbous, quarter. Brief discussion clarifies that phases are not caused by Earth’s shadow.
