Students will engage with a real user scenario to understand the needs and constraints of designing an eco-friendly building with a specific environmental footprint. Through observation, interviewing, and initial geometric modeling of real-world objects, students will begin connecting human needs to mathematical representations of solids and volume.
Day 1
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Define
Define
Students will synthesize user research and mathematical understanding of volume to define a clear, quantitative design problem for an eco-friendly building. They will translate user needs into geometric criteria and constraints, articulate a measurable environmental footprint goal, and submit a problem statement grounded in volume formulas and geometric modeling.
Day 2
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Ideate
Ideate
Students will generate multiple eco-building design concepts by modeling structures with geometric solids, calculating projected volumes and surface areas, and using quantitative evidence to select a design that meets a specified environmental footprint constraint.
Day 3
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Prototype
Prototype
Students will construct and refine a scale prototype of their eco-friendly building using geometric solids, calculate and justify volume and surface area decisions, and document how mathematical reasoning informs design revisions before user testing.
Day 4
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Test/Present
Test/Present
Students will test their eco-building prototypes with authentic users, refine mathematical justifications, and present their final geometric models and calculations at a Green Architecture Expo, demonstrating how volume and surface area modeling informed their environmental design decisions.
