🔎 Visitor Accessibility & Evidence Check

K-ESS3-1 K-PS3-1 K-LS1-1 K-ESS2-2 Assessment Reflection Community Partners Essential Question Submission Required Grading Required

After presenting, students participate in a brief teacher-led accessibility review. Using a simple picture-based checklist (smiley faces and icons), the teacher observes whether labels are visible, sunlight symbols are clear, and arrows connect needs to the plant. Students answer 2–3 verbal questions comparing sunny and shaded placements and describing observed patterns from their journal wall drawings.

# What teachers do
1 [5 min] Circle Time Introduction: Gather students in a circle. Explain the goal of today’s activity: making sure their plant models and posters can be seen and understood by visitors.
2 [10 min] Review Checklist: Hand out a picture-based checklist with smiley faces and icons. Guide students to observe if labels are visible, sunlight symbols are clear, and arrows connect needs to the plant on their posters.
3 [8 min] Verbal Questions: Ask students 2–3 questions about their observations, comparing sunny and shaded areas for plant growth and describing patterns they noticed from their journal drawings.
4 [5 min] Reflection Circle: Return to the circle. Encourage students to share one thing they learned from today’s review using the checklist and verbal questions.
Preparation (3 items)
  • Create a kid-friendly, picture-based checklist with smiley faces and icons to help students review their posters.
  • Set up the Plant Journal Wall for easy access, allowing students to reference their drawings as evidence.
  • Prepare verbal questions related to sunny vs shaded places and pattern observations that link to essential questions.
Student-facing instructions
Your task is to make sure your poster can be seen and understood by visitors. Look at your poster and use the checklist to check if everything is labeled and clear. Answer questions about how sunlight affects your plant and share patterns you see from your journal drawings. At the end, share one thing you learned.
