👀 Peer Plant Test Walk

K-PS3-1 K-LS1-1 Reflection Essential Question Submission Required

Groups rotate around the room to test two other garden habitat models. Using a simple picture checklist (sun, water drop, soil, person), students say one thing that works well and one question about how the plant gets what it needs. Each group receives feedback from at least two peer groups and discusses suggested changes.

# What teachers do
1 Gather all materials and models in a circle. Explain the 'Peer Plant Test Walk' and review the picture checklist with sun, water drop, soil, and person symbols. (5 min)
2 Split into small groups and rotate to another group’s garden habitat model. Look at the model and use the checklist to investigate how it shows what plants need. (10 min)
3 Give feedback. Share one thing you like about the model and ask one question using the checklist as a guide. (5 min)
4 Rotate to a second group’s model. Repeat the observation and feedback process, referring to the checklist for ideas. (10 min)
5 Return to your original group. Discuss the feedback received and brainstorm one way to improve your model. (5 min)
Preparation (2 items)
  • Prepare a simple picture checklist with symbols for sun, water drop, soil, and person.
  • Arrange the room so that groups have enough space to move around and observe each other’s models.
Student-facing instructions
Your task is to visit two other groups' plant models. Use your picture checklist to see how each model shows what plants need to be healthy and grow. After observing, tell them one thing you like and ask one question. Then think about how you can make your model better with the feedback you got.
