Submission Required
Using their defined problem statements and interview insights, teams generate at least 20 possible solutions in 15 minutes on chart paper or digital whiteboards. Students apply the rules of brainstorming (defer judgment, go for quantity, build on ideas). Ideas may include renewable energy shifts, conservation campaigns, transportation changes, or school-based systems.

5 steps| # | What teachers do |
|---|---|
| 1 | Introduce the activity. Explain that students will brainstorm 20 ideas to help lower carbon footprints. Set group roles and distribute chart paper or set up digital whiteboards. (10 min) |
| 2 | Begin brainstorming session. Encourage students to generate as many ideas as possible without judging them. Each group creates a list of 20 ideas related to carbon footprint reduction. (15 min) |
| 3 | Review brainstormed ideas within the group. Discuss which ideas seem most promising or impactful. Allow each group to share top ideas with the class. (15 min) |
| 4 | Reflect on the activity. Have students write down one thing they learned and one area they think they could improve in the next session. (10 min) |
| 5 | Wrap up the session by connecting the brainstormed ideas to the essential question: How can individual and community actions contribute to reducing our carbon footprint effectively? Discuss briefly as a whole class. (10 min) |
Preparation (1 item)
- Prepare chart papers or digital whiteboards for each group, ensure markers are available, and set up a timer for brainstorming.
Student-facing instructions
Your task is to work in groups and brainstorm 20 ideas to help reduce carbon footprints. Use chart paper or digital whiteboards to write your ideas. Focus on things like renewable energy changes, school campaigns, or new transportation methods. Each person should have a chance to add ideas. After brainstorming, choose a few favorite ideas and share them with the class. The goal is to think about changes that can make a positive impact on the earth.
