Empathize
Empathize
Students will engage in empathy walks, where they gather insights from peers about their assigned ecosystems to understand varying perspectives and experiences, which will form the foundation for their ecosystem collages.
Day 1
Define
Define
Students will articulate the objectives of their ecosystem projects by defining the key components, like organisms, populations, and communities, and will prioritize why understanding these interactions is crucial, establishing their project's north star and intended impact within the learning journey.
Day 1
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Ideate
Ideate
Students will brainstorm and collaborate in small groups to generate creative and innovative ideas for their ecosystem collage, focusing on identifying all levels of organization and key biotic and abiotic factors, setting the stage for meaningful project design.
Day 2
Draft
Draft
Students will work collaboratively to draft detailed outlines and preliminary sketches of their ecosystem collages, focusing on integrating identified organisms, populations, communities, and abiotic/biotic factors to prepare for revisions and feedback.
Day 3
15 min over capacity (45 min available across 1 day)
Test
Test
Students will pilot their ecosystem collage presentations to a peer group, receiving feedback on clarity, engagement, and depth of content, and making adjustments to enhance their understanding and delivery of the ecosystem complexities and interactions.
Day 3
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Critique
Critique
Students will engage in partner pairings to share their ecosystem collages, offering and receiving constructive feedback using a structured critique protocol to refine their understanding and presentation before the final showcase.
Day 4
Notice & Reflect
Notice & Reflect
Students will present their ecosystem collages to the class, reflect on their learning and decision-making processes, and predict how this understanding will guide future environmental decisions.
