Purpose

In this project-based learning experience, students will investigate the expansion of the Muslim Empire through collaborative projects and group activities. They will examine the geographical factors and governance systems of the empire while tracing cultural exchange facilitated by trade routes. By creating visual representations and reflecting on modern connections, students develop a deeper understanding of the historical impacts and their relevance to contemporary cultural diversity.

Learning goals

Students will delve into the geographic, political, and cultural facets of the Muslim Empire's expansion from 600-1600, evaluating its impact on trade and cultural exchange. They will critically analyze historical governance systems to understand their influence on contemporary governments, while exploring motives behind the expansion of empires and the geographic elements that shaped their growth and governance. Through collaborative group work, students will create posters to illustrate trade routes and cultural interactions, fostering connections between historical cultural diffusion and diversity within their own communities.
