Empathize
Empathize
Students will meet real park users, gather firsthand evidence about what visitors know and wonder about insects, and create empathy maps grounded in direct quotes and observations to prepare for defining a meaningful design challenge.
Days 1 - 2
Define
Define
Students will synthesize their park visitor interviews and insect observations into clear, evidence-based problem statements that guide the design of their Bug Bash Festival habitats and art installations.
Days 3 - 4
Ideate
Ideate
Students will generate many possible ways to teach park visitors about the importance of insects, use structured creativity strategies to push beyond obvious ideas, and select top concepts grounded in real visitor needs and insect science before moving into prototyping.
Days 5 - 7
Prototype
Prototype
Students will build, test, and revise low- and medium-fidelity prototypes of their insect habitat and art installations, using real user feedback from peers and a park ranger to improve how clearly they teach the community about the importance of insects in parks.
Days 8 - 11
Test/Present
Test/Present
Students will test their refined insect habitat installations with new park visitors, make final evidence-based revisions, and present their full design journey at the Bug Bash Festival, clearly connecting user research, science content, and iteration decisions.
