Purpose

This project aims to foster a deeper understanding of the benefits of healthy eating and regular exercise through engaging, hands-on activities that explore the importance and impact of lifestyle choices. By participating in interactive workshops, community engagements, and personal reflections, students will grasp the nutritional differences between fast food and healthier alternatives, leading to informed choices for a balanced diet. Through collaborative efforts to prepare for the Healthy Living Fair, students will strengthen their ability to communicate essential health information, advocate for healthier practices within their community, and reflect on the personal impact of their dietary and activity choices.

Learning goals

Students will develop a strong understanding of nutritional concepts by evaluating the effects of different foods on the body and learning to make informed choices using food labels. They will cultivate practical skills in promoting healthy living through creating engaging presentations and leading interactive booths at a community fair. Through hands-on gardening experiences and exercises, students will internalize the value of balanced diets and physical activity, fostering lifelong habits. By reflecting on their dietary habits and exercise routines, students will build self-awareness and set actionable goals for personal health improvement.

Products

Students will create a dynamic 'Balanced Plate' diorama using real or crafted foods to visualize an ideal meal, showcasing the proportions of fruits, vegetables, protein, and grains. They will also conduct a science experiment to examine the nutritional content of hamburgers from different fast food chains, fostering their analytical skills. In addition, students will develop an interactive 'Exercise Alley' featuring fun exercises and dance routines that encourage active participation from visitors, enhanced with music and visual guides for engagement. Lastly, they'll design a 'Nutrition Detective' station, guiding guests through food label analysis and skits that highlight the impact of dietary choices.

Launch

To kick off the project, start with a lively 'Fast Food vs. Fresh Food Face-Off'. Students participate in a quiz-style game that compares the nutritional content of fast food with fresh, healthy options. This engaging activity sets the stage for exploring the benefits of healthier choices and sparks curiosity as students prepare to delve into their hands-on projects.

Exhibition

Students will host a lively 'Fit and Fun Fair' inviting peers, families, and community members to explore their interactive wellness booths. Each booth will showcase engaging activities such as exercise routines, nutritional games, and informative displays crafted by the students. Guests will participate in hands-on experiences including sampling healthy recipes and viewing dioramas of balanced meals, all aimed at encouraging healthier lifestyle choices. The exhibition will serve as a platform for students to actively educate visitors on the significance of healthy eating and exercise through the creative products they developed during the project.
