Purpose

Students will embark on a playful exploration to design and build a mini model of Feaster Charter's school buildings, weaving creativity and green architecture principles together. This hands-on adventure invites learners to imaginatively delve into the world of sustainable building materials and design choices, all while uncovering environmental solutions. With tools like Tinkercad and 3D printers as their creative sidekicks, students team up in a dynamic quest to craft models that mirror eco-friendly innovations for the future.

Learning goals

Students will embark on a hands-on journey through the world of green architecture, sparking curiosity and teamwork as they craft 3D models of their school's buildings. They'll explore playful problem-solving techniques to address real-world environmental challenges through design and teamwork. With each step, students will grow their understanding of sustainable architecture while honing their communication skills to share discoveries in engaging formats. As they reflect on their progress, learners will have the opportunity to experiment, receive peer feedback, and refine their designs, building a foundation of self-directed learning and environmental stewardship.

Products

Throughout the project, students will engage in creating playful and imaginative 3D models of their school's modular buildings, adding creative elements that highlight green architecture features. They will craft detailed and whimsical blueprints using digital tools, incorporating innovative design choices to explore and reflect on eco-friendly principles. By the end, students will present their models in a vibrant exhibition that includes interactive elements, allowing them to share their journey of discovery in understanding the impact and importance of green architecture with enthusiasm and creativity.

Launch

Start with a playful scavenger hunt around the school grounds, where students locate and document existing sustainable features and areas for potential improvement. Allow students to experiment with virtual building games that incorporate eco-friendly practices, sparking creativity and interest in green architecture. Facilitate a fun design challenge, where students use recyclable materials to create mini structures reflecting green principles, encouraging hands-on exploration before diving into 3D modeling.

Exhibition

Students will host an interactive community exhibition in the Mindlabs space, where they will playfully present their mini models and research on green architecture to inspire excitement about sustainable building practices. Utilizing creative stations, guests can explore Tinkercad demonstrations and engage in hands-on activities related to environmentally-conscious design. Students will use engaging presentations to reflect on their learning, encouraging lively discussions and showcasing their collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills in the context of real-world environmental challenges.
