Effective Communication Self Directed Learning Collaboration Critical Thinking & Problem Solving Content Expertise Community Partners Critique and Revision Submission Required

In a 90-minute collaborative session, your small group will conduct an empathy driven ideation sprint with at least one community partner. Create quantity over quality brainstorm documentation to surface diverse documentary approaches; produce 2 to 3 concept sketches or storyboards and a Feasibility/Impact Matrix that weighs each idea against constraints like gear, access, and time and potential audience impact. Identify your Top 3 concepts with clear rationales grounded in user insights. Present your artifacts to peers and the partner for feedback (user testing) and capture notes to guide future iterations.

# What teachers do
1 Introduction: Set up the collaborative session. Explain today's goals and outline the steps participants will take during the sprint. (15 min)
2 Brainstorm Session: Divide into small groups with at least one community partner in each group. Conduct an empathy-driven ideation sprint, generating a wide range of documentary approaches. Document brainstorm ideas visibly for reference. (45 min)
3 Concept Sketching: Each group selects their Top 3 ideas and creates 2-3 concept sketches or storyboards to visually represent these ideas. (40 min)
4 Feasibility/Impact Matrix: Groups weigh each concept against constraints like gear, access, time, and potential audience impact using a Feasibility/Impact Matrix. Identify Top 3 concepts based on analysis. (35 min)
5 Presentation Preparation: Prepare presentation materials and assign roles within the group for presenting concepts. (20 min)
6 Peer & Partner Feedback: Present concepts to peers and partners; engage in a feedback session to capture notes and guide future iterations. (50 min)
7 Wrap-up & Reflection: As a whole group, discuss key insights and plan next steps for refining concepts based on feedback received. Record feedback and insights for reference. (65 min)
Preparation (3 items)

Student-facing instructions
In this activity, you will collaborate in small groups, including community partners, to conduct an empathy-driven ideation sprint. Brainstorm diverse documentary styles and techniques that capture personal high school experiences, focusing on relationships and personal growth. Develop concept sketches and use a Feasibility/Impact Matrix to analyze each idea's potential impact. Prepare a presentation and present your top concepts to peers and partners for feedback.
