Effective Communication Collaboration Critical Thinking & Problem Solving CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.7 CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.11-12.7 Core Content Essential Question Submission Required Grading Required

In small teams, brainstorm a broad set of ideas for digital content that supports child development. Gather quick user insights from two short conversations with parents or caregivers to ground the thinking and emphasize empathy. Produce quantity-focused brainstorm notes, rough concept sketches or storyboards showing how a digital booklet or website could present information on nutrition, behavior management, and mental health; create a feasibility/impact matrix to compare concepts; and select your Top 3 concepts with clear rationale to guide next steps.

# What teachers do
1 Introduction and Activity Overview. Present the essential questions and objectives of the Concept Sketch Sprint. (20 min)
2 Team Formation and Role Assignments. Form small teams with designated roles (e.g., facilitator, scribe, artist). (10 min)
3 Conduct Conversations. Each team conducts two brief empathy-driven conversations with parents or caregivers to gather insights. (30 min)
4 Brainstorm Session. Teams brainstorm a wide array of ideas for digital content, focusing on quantity over quality. (40 min)
5 Develop Rough Sketches. Teams create rough concept sketches or storyboards based on brainstormed ideas. (40 min)
6 Feasibility/Impact Matrix. Teams evaluate ideas using a feasibility/impact matrix to prioritize high-impact concepts. (30 min)
7 Select Top 3 Concepts. Teams decide on their Top 3 digital content concepts and prepare a rationale. (20 min)
8 Group Reflection and Sharing. Facilitate a group reflection session for teams to share their Top 3 concepts and gather feedback. (40 min)
9 Wrap-Up and Next Steps. Summarize key insights and outline the next steps for further development and refinement. (40 min)
Preparation (4 items)
  • Arrange for parents or caregivers to be available for short conversations during the session.
  • Prepare materials for brainstorming, including large paper, markers, and tools for sketching.
  • Set up a digital platform or provide physical templates for creating feasibility/impact matrices.
  • Review key elements of the feasibility/impact matrix with participants to ensure understanding.
Student-facing instructions
You will work in small teams to brainstorm a variety of digital content ideas related to child development. Your task is to conduct short conversations with parents or caregivers to gather user insights, which will inform your brainstorming. You'll then create rough concept sketches of potential solutions and evaluate them using a feasibility/impact matrix to prioritize the most promising ideas. Your goal is to select and present your Top 3 concepts with a clear rationale for each.
