Prototype Iteration Sprint

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving Effective Communication Collaboration HS-LS2-7 Product Reflection Critique and Revision

Teams create a low- or medium-fidelity prototype of their pollution clean-up kit and generate an iteration log documenting design changes, rationale, and feedback from a UCONN scientist or community partner. Prototypes and logs are stored in digital portfolios. Students prepare a brief evidence pack to share at the next stakeholder check-in.

# What teachers do
1 Introduction to Prototype Iteration Sprint. Discuss objectives and overview of the activity. (10 min)
2 Team formation and initial brainstorming. Work in groups to discuss ideas and outline prototype goals. (15 min)
3 Drafting initial prototype design. Sketch or conceptualize ideas for the pollution clean-up kit within teams. (20 min)
4 Receive feedback from community partners. Facilitate virtual meeting with UCONN scientists for expert advice. (15 min)
5 Iterate on designs based on feedback. Teams refine their prototypes using insights and suggestions gathered. (15 min)
6 Documentation of iteration process. Update iteration logs with design changes, rationales, and feedback incorporated. (10 min)
7 Digital portfolio update. Upload designs and logs, including evidence packs for future stakeholder check-in. (15 min)
8 Reflective journal writing. Teams individually document learning outcomes and personal growth insights. (10 min)
9 Facilitator-led critique session. Present prototype drafts and ideas to peers and receive targeted feedback. (14 min)
Preparation (1 item)
  • Arrange for UCONN scientists to join a virtual feedback session and ensure necessary technology is available and functioning smoothly.
Student-facing instructions
Your task is to develop a low- or medium-fidelity prototype of a pollution clean-up kit with your team. Use provided materials for sketching and constructing. Collaborate and communicate effectively within your team. Prepare an iteration log detailing design changes and rationale and update your digital portfolio. Engage with UCONN scientists for feedback and refine your prototype accordingly. Maintain a reflective journal for documenting personal insights and growth.
