Purpose

The purpose of this learning experience is to deepen your understanding and proficiency in Muay Thai, building upon your foundation in Taekwondo and Boxing. By immersing yourself in the physical and mental discipline of martial arts training, you aim to enhance your self-awareness and resilience, while fostering a comprehensive skill set that enriches your life. Engaging with community partners and documenting your progress will enable you to critically reflect on and demonstrate your growth, inspiring others through your journey.

Learning goals

In this project, you will enhance your understanding of Muay Thai and modern kickboxing by engaging in structured training sessions and documenting your progress. Strengthen your skills in video production and reflective writing by capturing and analyzing your training journey weekly. Develop key martial arts techniques by blending principles from Taekwondo, boxing, and Muay Thai to craft unique combinations. Through collaboration and feedback from trainers, refine and innovate on applications of the "Eight Limbs" in sparring scenarios. Expand your communication skills by presenting your experiences and findings through a final exhibition spar, where you will effectively demonstrate acquired knowledge and skills.

Document sessions with reflective journal entries highlighting key learning moments, personal development, and challenges. Conduct interviews with trainers and fellow practitioners to gather insights for inclusion in your final presentation. Culminate the project with a technical exhibition spar that demonstrates your mastery of Muay Thai principles, blending them with your previous martial arts experience, and invites the school community to witness your progression and newfound skills.

Launch

Kick off your journey with an immersive day at the American Kickboxing Academy, where you'll engage in an introductory session led by experienced trainers. Wrap up the day by sketching out your project goals and initial reflections with peers, setting a foundation for collaborative learning and shared decision-making as you progress through the project.

Exhibition

Utilize this event to showcase a blend of Muay Thai and your past experiences in boxing and taekwondo through a controlled spar with a more experienced Muay Thai friend.
