Purpose

The purpose of creating this video is to capture the essence of High Tech High Chula Vista's unique approach to senior projects, highlighting their significance in fostering experiential and deeper learning. Through interviews and creative storytelling, you will showcase the diverse perspectives and motivations of seniors, illustrating how these projects encompass critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication. This endeavor not only strengthens your video production skills but also contributes a valuable resource for the school community, providing insightful context for future students and visitors about the innovative educational philosophy at High Tech High.

Learning goals

Through this project, you will develop media literacy skills by engaging in workshops focused on effective video production techniques. You will also learn to create and integrate all elements of technology into your video, reflecting the values and culture of the High Tech High community. Additionally, you will enhance critical thinking, collaboration, and self-directed learning abilities by co-designing the video with peers, receiving and applying feedback, and taking ownership of your learning process.

Launch

Begin your project with an engaging kickoff event during the school assembly or community gathering. Present a teaser trailer that showcases the theme of your senior project video, highlighting the diversity and creativity of senior projects at High Tech High Chula Vista. Invite community partners like CVES and Bret Spearneck to share insights on the value of project-based learning. This will set the stage for excitement and buy-in from students, parents, and staff, creating anticipation for the final video exhibition. This initial engagement can also serve as a brainstorming opportunity for additional content ideas and interview questions.

Exhibition

Coordinate a screening of your video in the school commons during the exhibition, inviting senior parents and community partners to celebrate the collective efforts. Create an engaging display table featuring promotional pamphlets and behind-the-scenes content to deepen the audience's understanding and spark conversation. Facilitate a discussion or Q&A session post-screening, allowing you to present insights gained and gather feedback for further reflection and learning.
