Splash of Creativity: Bathroom Revamp!

1-pager

Purpose

Through your senior project, you aim to transform the girls' bathroom into an inviting, meaningful space that embodies values treasured by your school community. This makeover serves to enhance the comfort and inclusivity of a commonly used space, fostering a sense of belonging and pride among students. By employing interior design principles and artistic expression, your project highlights how physical environments can cultivate shared values and make students feel more at ease in their daily school surroundings.

Learning goals

Develop skills in mural design, interior planning, and color theory by exploring how art can transform spaces to reflect shared values. Apply teamwork and collaboration strategies to create inclusive and comfortable environments. Manage project timelines and budgets effectively, incorporating feedback from peers and community partners to refine ideas and execute plans. Engage in reflective practices to evaluate personal growth in creativity, leadership, and communication.

Products

Your learning experience will result in a complete interior makeover and mural for the girls' bathroom, documented through before and after photos highlighting your efforts. Alongside these visual transformations, you will produce design sketches and a detailed project journal, capturing reflections on the creative process, collaboration, challenges faced, and sources of inspiration. Additionally, plan a presentation or exhibition to showcase these tangible results and insights to the school community, with a focus on empowerment and inclusivity.

Launch

Begin your project by transforming the girls' bathroom into an idea lab. Cover the walls with large sheets of butcher paper where you and your partner can freely sketch initial designs, color palettes, and values you want to represent. Invite the school community to a brainstorming session hosted at the project site, encouraging them to contribute ideas and share their perspectives on what represents inclusivity and comfort. Capture these insights and use them as inspiration in your design sketches and planning stage, setting the tone for a collaborative transformation process.

Exhibition

Organize a community showcase within the school to exhibit the redesigned bathroom and mural. Initiate discussions during the event about the impact and symbolism of the values represented in the artwork. Facilitate a gallery walk in the bathroom space, complete with before and after photos, design sketches, and reflective commentaries. Create interactive stations where attendees can engage with your design process and provide feedback. Encourage participation by inviting the school community to share their thoughts and experiences related to the project's themes of inclusivity and comfort.
