Purpose

Students analyze their IXL data to define what success in math looks like and connect foundational skill growth to their progress in Algebra 1. Through graphing, averages, trend analysis, and reflection, they examine challenges, growth, and next steps. The project culminates in a data poster and Math Growth Gallery Walk where students share how their math growth and mindset have changed since August.

Learning goals

Students will graph and label their IXL data, calculate averages, and explain trends in their math growth. They will use two graphs and a reflection to answer, “What does success look like?” with evidence from their progress. Students will use feedback, checklists, and peer discussion to revise a data poster and explain how their skills and mindset changed over time.

Products

Students will create at least two clearly labeled graphs from their IXL data showing trends, averages, and key changes over time. They will also complete short analysis notes, reflection drafts, and checklist-based revisions. The final product will be a Math Growth Data Poster that combines graphs, analysis, and a reflection answering, “What does success look like?” Students will share their posters in a Math Growth Gallery Walk with classmates and teachers.

Launch

Students will practice interpreting different graphs in preparation to analyze their own data. Being able to read the graph and relate the independent and dependent variables to each other builds an understanding of what the graph is displaying.

Exhibition

Host a Math Growth Gallery Walk where students display a data poster with two labeled graphs, averages, trend analysis, and a reflection answering, “What does success look like?” Invite classmates, teachers, and the classroom community to ask questions and leave warm and cool feedback. Each student gives a brief explanation of their math growth, mindset shifts, and how foundational skills supported their Algebra 1 progress.
