Purpose

Students will embark on a dynamic learning journey to master the art of juggling, engaging both physically and mentally. They will explore the synergy between physics, movement, and consistent practice while fostering collaboration within teams to enhance their skills. With hands-on activities and reflection, students will deepen their understanding of how teamwork can amplify personal growth and skill acquisition. Through the creation of a collaborative performance, learners will demonstrate their skills in the vibrant Juggle Jam, showcasing their creativity and dedication alongside peers and community partners.

Learning goals

Students will develop fundamental juggling skills with three balls, focusing on hand-eye coordination and timing through collaborative practice and individual reflection. They will explore and apply physics principles related to motion and balance, understanding their impact on physical skills. Students will learn the value of teamwork in skill enhancement, cultivating communication skills during group exercises and peer feedback sessions. Through the creation of a collective performance for the Juggle Jam, students will demonstrate creative choreography, cooperation, and self-awareness in skill progression.

Products

Students will create a collaborative juggling performance showcasing individual routines that blend creativity with teamwork, culminating in the Juggle Jam event. Each student will contribute unique routines, integrating dynamic choreography with elements of rhythm and physics principles learned throughout the lesson. Additional products include a personal juggling diary that reflects their daily practice, insights, and challenges, fostering a mindset of continuous improvement and self-awareness.

Launch

Start the lesson with an engaging demonstration by a local juggling expert or a guest juggler from the community theater group. They will perform a variety of juggling routines, including interactive segments where students try simple juggling moves. This dynamic introduction will spark curiosity and set the stage for students to explore the essential questions around teamwork, practice, physics, and the art of juggling.

Exhibition

Students will present their collaborative juggling performances during the 'Juggle Jam' event, where each group showcases their unique routines. The exhibition will also feature a video montage highlighting individual progress, including snippets of practice sessions and personal reflections, shared with an audience of parents, peers, and local community members. The event will be an interactive celebration of learning, allowing students to connect with community theater partners while showcasing their skills and teamwork.
