Purpose

The purpose of this project is to engage student ambassadors in leading professional development for educators, emphasizing the integration of our school's Portrait of a Graduate competencies into daily instruction. Through collaborative workshops, role-playing exercises, and reflective sessions, ambassadors develop and share innovative strategies to support teachers in overcoming potential challenges. Ambassadors will document their learning journey by uploading evidence into their Mastery Learning Record (MLR) and will create training modules for new NEAAAT coaches as well as for students at NEAAAT, thereby facilitating ongoing application and understanding of the competencies within the educational community.

Learning goals

Student ambassadors aim to cultivate educators' understanding and practical application of the Portrait of a Graduate competencies via dynamic, student-led sessions. Ambassadors will document their experiences in the MLR and develop training modules for NEAAAT coaches and students, focusing on strategies for embedding these competencies in educational practice. Through collaboration with community partners, ambassadors will refine their communication skills and foster effective problem-solving approaches while supporting educators in overcoming challenges related to the competencies' integration.
Competencies
  • Self Directed Learning - Students use teacher and peer feedback and self-reflection to monitor and direct their own learning while building self knowledge both in and out of the classroom.
  • Effective Communication - Students practice listening to understand, communicating with empathy, and share their learning through exhibiting, presenting and reflecting on their work.
  • Content Expertise - Students develop key competencies, skills, and dispositions with ample opportunities to apply knowledge and engage in work that matters to them.
  • Collaboration - Students co-design projects with peers, exercise shared-decision making, strengthen relational agency, resolve conflict, and assume leadership roles.
  • Academic Mindset - Students establish a sense of place, identity, and belonging to increase self-efficacy while engaging in critical reflection and action.
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving - Students consider a variety of innovative approaches to address and understand complex questions that are authentic and important to their communities.

Products

Student Ambassadors will compile their learning experiences and evidences into their Mastery Learning Record (MLR) for documentation. They will develop comprehensive training modules tailored for new NEAAAT coaches, focusing on effectively integrating the Portrait of a Graduate competencies. Additionally, they will design engaging training modules for current NEAAAT students, fostering peer-to-peer learning on these competencies.

Launch

Start the learning experience with an 'Ambassador Launch Day' where student ambassadors present interactive role-playing skits and peer-teaching simulations focused on demonstrating the school's Portrait of a Graduate competencies. Engage educators in a hands-on session that explores how these competencies can be practically applied in classrooms, encouraging joint analysis and discussion. Following the presentation, student ambassadors will model the creation of training modules designed for new NEAAAT coaches and students, highlighting the real-world application of the competencies and methodologies discussed.

Exhibition

In the 'Ambassador Showcase' event, student ambassadors will conduct breakout sessions that explore each Portrait of a Graduate competency through interactive activities and demonstrations. Evidence gathered during the project will be uploaded to their MLR, highlighting their journey and achievements. Additionally, they will present training modules designed for NEAAAT coaches and students, which focus on integrating these competencies within various school settings. Community partners, including members of the Business Alliance, will participate, providing feedback and collaborating on future applications.
