Purpose

The purpose of this project is to enable students to creatively document and reflect on their personal growth and learning journey from the First Year Seminar. Through the development of a multimedia portfolio, students will synthesize their experiences, insights, and achievements, showcasing their ability to connect seminar topics to real-world applications. This project encourages students to articulate the impact of their seminar experiences on their academic and personal development, while also inspiring future students through compelling storytelling and diverse formats.

Learning goals

The learning goals for this project focus on developing students' ability to creatively represent their personal growth and learning journey through a multimedia portfolio. Students will enhance their leadership qualities by preparing and presenting their portfolios, demonstrating commitment and responsibility. They will refine their skills in multimedia creation, personal narrative writing, and digital literacy, allowing them to effectively communicate their seminar experiences and insights. Additionally, students will engage in self-directed learning, utilizing feedback and reflection to monitor and direct their progress, while building self-knowledge both academically and personally.
Standards
  • [National Core Arts Standards] DA:Pr6.1.III.a - Demonstrate leadership qualities (for example commitment, dependability, responsibility, and cooperation) when preparing for performances. Model performance etiquette and performance practices during class, rehearsal and performance. Enhance performance using a broad repertoire of strategies for dynamic projection. Develop a professional portfolio (resume, head shot, etc.) that documents the rehearsal and performance process with fluency in professional dance terminology and production terminology.
Competencies
  • Self Directed Learning - Students use teacher and peer feedback and self-reflection to monitor and direct their own learning while building self knowledge both in and out of the classroom.

Products

Students will create a multimedia portfolio that includes a personal narrative video, a podcast episode discussing key seminar topics, and a digital art piece representing personal growth. Additionally, they will design a collaborative class website where each student contributes a page featuring their multimedia portfolio. The final products will be showcased at the 'Learning Showcase Day' and 'Portfolio Gallery Walk,' allowing visitors to explore individual journeys and insights.

Launch

Begin with a 'Personal Growth Storytelling Circle' where students share impactful experiences from the First Year Seminar, fostering deep reflection on their learning journey. Follow this with a 'Portfolio Inspiration Day' featuring interactive stations for exploring multimedia tools like video editing and podcasting, sparking creativity for portfolio creation. Conclude with a 'Seminar Journey Mapping Session' where students collaboratively create a visual map of their seminar experiences, serving as a reference for developing their portfolios.

Exhibition

Students will present their multimedia portfolios at a 'Learning Showcase Day,' where each student sets up a booth in the school auditorium. They will interact with peers, teachers, and family members, sharing their personal growth stories and seminar insights. Additionally, a 'Portfolio Gallery Walk' in the school library allows for a more interactive experience, where visitors can engage with the creators and explore the diverse multimedia elements of each portfolio.
