Purpose

The purpose of this project is to immerse kindergarten students in the world of royalty through engaging, hands-on activities that foster creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression. By exploring the concept of kings and queens, students will develop an understanding of historical symbols and roles, while practicing essential literacy skills. This project encourages collaboration, reflection, and communication, allowing students to connect their learning to their own identities and experiences.

Learning goals

Students will explore the concept of royalty by identifying basic facts and details about kings and queens through text and images. They will develop fine motor skills and creativity by crafting crowns, and enhance their communication and critical thinking through collaborative activities like the Royal Gallery Walk and Story Time. By engaging in self-directed learning and reflection, students will build self-knowledge and establish a sense of identity and belonging. Through hands-on experiences, they will practice effective communication, critical reflection, and problem-solving, culminating in the creation of a castle as a group project.

Products

Throughout the week, students will create personalized crowns using craft materials, showcasing their understanding of royalty symbols. By the end of the project, each student will have contributed to a collaborative castle display, representing their collective learning about kings and queens. Additionally, students will produce a 'Royal Reflection Journal' with drawings and simple sentences documenting their daily discoveries and experiences.

Launch

Begin the project with a 'Royal Dress-Up Day' where students come dressed as kings, queens, or royal subjects. This engaging activity will introduce the concept of royalty in a playful and interactive manner. Students will participate in a parade around the classroom, fostering a sense of community and excitement as they explore the roles and symbols associated with royalty.

Exhibition

Students will host a "Royal Castle Exhibition" at the elementary school, showcasing their crafted crowns, Royal Reflection Journals, and collaborative castle projects. Family members and other classes will be invited to explore the gallery walk, where students will present their work and share stories about kings and queens. This exhibition will provide an opportunity for students to practice effective communication and celebrate their learning achievements with the school community.
