Purpose

Students will dive into the exciting world of combinatorics and probability by working with real sports statistics to make predictions about upcoming games. This interactive experience allows students to collaborate, think critically, and apply math in a context that aligns with their passions. With the chance to engage with sports analysts and refine their models, students will experience the thrill of using math to tackle real-world challenges and see their predictions come to life.

They will craft predictive models based on historical data, employing permutations and combinations, and refine these models with insights from sports analysts. Products

Students will collaboratively create an interactive sports prediction game that incorporates their predictive models using combinatorics and probability. Each group will design a game board or digital simulation where classmates can test different outcomes based on their calculations. The project will culminate in a class tournament where students play each other's games, fostering a lively discussion on the accuracy and creativity of the models.

Launch

Begin the lesson with an interactive sports-themed challenge where students form teams and engage in a fast-paced game predicting outcomes of a fictional sports tournament using dice and cards. Each team will simulate different game scenarios, using dice rolls and card draws to determine possible outcomes, while discussing the probability of each result. Exhibition

Students will host a "Sports Analytics Carnival" featuring interactive booths where they present their predictive models in a fun, game-like format.
