Purpose

The purpose of this learning experience is to cultivate self-directed learning skills by guiding students through a reflective process that allows them to take ownership of their educational journey. Students will engage in activities that encourage them to assess their strengths and areas for growth, set personalized learning goals, and develop strategies to achieve them. Through peer feedback and self-reflection, students will create a personal learning map that visually represents their progress and achievements, fostering a deeper understanding of their learning process. This experience aims to empower students to navigate their education with autonomy and responsibility, preparing them for lifelong learning.

Learning goals

Students will develop self-directed learning skills by engaging in self-assessment activities to identify their strengths and areas for growth. They will design a personal learning itinerary that aligns with official curriculum standards, setting specific goals and strategies for improvement. Through peer review sessions and reflective prompts, students will refine their learning paths, culminating in the creation of a personal learning map that visually represents their educational journey.
Competencies
  • Self Directed Learning - Students use teacher and peer feedback and self-reflection to monitor and direct their own learning while building self knowledge both in and out of the classroom.

Products

Students will create a personalized learning map that visually represents their educational journey, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and achievements. Throughout the project, they will engage in self-assessment activities to identify strengths and areas for improvement, using these insights to refine their learning map. The final product will be presented during the end-of-year Presentations of Learning (PoL), where students will share their personal stories and defend their learning journey with evidence and examples in front of an audience.

Launch

Begin with a 'Reflection Retreat,' where students engage in a series of interactive workshops designed to help them explore their personal learning styles and preferences. Facilitate activities that encourage students to identify their strengths and areas for growth, using reflective prompts aligned with official curriculum standards. Encourage students to set preliminary goals for their learning journey, fostering a sense of ownership and direction from the outset.

Exhibition

Students will present their personal learning maps during the end-of-year Presentations of Learning (PoL), where they will share their educational journeys with peers, teachers, and family members. Each student will narrate their personal story, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and successes, supported by tangible learning evidence. The exhibition will be a public event, fostering a supportive environment where the community can appreciate and celebrate each student's growth and achievements.
