The purpose of this project is to immerse 4th-grade students in the world of anime to enhance their comprehension and interpretation of literary and informational texts. Through hands-on activities like creating graphic novels and participating in art exhibitions, students will explore narrative techniques and character development. This experience aims to foster critical thinking, self-directed learning, and a strong academic mindset by connecting students' socio-emotional experiences with the expressive art of anime.
Learning goals
Students will explore and analyze the techniques used in anime to convey emotions and perspectives, applying these insights to write and illustrate their own opinion pieces in the form of short graphic novels. They will develop skills in character analysis, narrative structure, and visual storytelling, enhancing their comprehension of both literary and informational texts. Through self-directed learning and peer collaboration, students will build self-awareness and critical thinking skills, culminating in the creation and exhibition of original anime-inspired works that reflect their understanding and creativity.
