Purpose

The purpose of this learning experience is to immerse students in the process of organizing a career fair that aligns with their interests and curriculum connections. Through hands-on activities and collaboration with community partners, students will explore diverse career pathways, develop digital portfolios, and engage in critical reflection. This project aims to enhance students' self-directed learning, critical thinking, and sense of identity by connecting them with real-world career opportunities and fostering a deeper understanding of the skills required for various professions.

Learning goals

Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of various career paths by creating digital portfolios that incorporate multimedia elements, showcasing their interests and skills. They will refine their ability to provide and receive constructive feedback through peer evaluation, enhancing their communication and critical thinking skills. Additionally, students will cultivate self-directed learning by reflecting on their experiences and interactions with professionals, identifying new skills and interests. Through organizing and participating in the Career Quest Gallery Walk, students will strengthen their sense of identity and belonging, while exploring innovative approaches to connect academic knowledge with real-world career opportunities.

Products

Students will create a digital 'Career Pathway Map' using tools like Canva or Google Slides, detailing the steps and skills needed for various professions. This map will be part of a digital portfolio that includes multimedia elements such as videos, infographics, and written reflections on their career exploration journey. These portfolios will be showcased during the 'Career Quest Gallery Walk', where students will present their findings and insights to peers and community members.

Launch

Begin the project with a dynamic 'Career Exploration Day,' where students dive into interactive workshops led by local professionals. These workshops will cover diverse industries, allowing students to engage in hands-on activities such as building a mini robot, designing a marketing campaign, or creating an art piece. This immersive experience will spark curiosity and provide a foundation for students to explore their interests further throughout the week.

Exhibition

Students will host a 'Career Quest Gallery Walk' where they present their digital portfolios and Career Pathway Maps, showcasing the skills and steps for various professions. The gallery will feature interactive booths run by local professionals, allowing students to engage in hands-on activities and discussions. Visitors will explore visual and digital artifacts, gaining insight into the diverse career paths and experiences students encountered throughout the project.
