Purpose

This project engages students in exploring the real-world implications of financial decision-making through a hands-on, collaborative journey. By crafting narratives and partnering with community organizations, students will strategically use storytelling to convey the journey and impact of their financial choices, meeting English standards. Through this process, they will develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and communication abilities, demonstrating their capacity to make informed, impactful decisions.

Learning goals

Students will enhance their storytelling skills by crafting narratives that illustrate their financial decision-making processes and the impact of those choices over a year, aligning with English standards. They will collaborate with community partners to explore philanthropic efforts and create proposals for fund allocation, fostering their collaboration and critical thinking abilities. Through creating a photo book and participating in a gallery walk, students will refine their ability to communicate ideas visually and verbally, while reflecting on their learning journey and receiving peer feedback.

Students will create personalized photo books that document their financial journey, showcasing their decision-making process and the impact of their choices through well-crafted narratives. These photo books will include images and reflections on their experiences with spending, investing, and donating money. Additionally, students will develop multimedia presentations for the 'Story of a Billion' gallery walk, integrating storytelling elements to engage viewers and convey the significance of their financial decisions, aligning with English standards.

Launch

Begin the project with a 'Vision Board Creation Day,' where students create visual representations of their financial goals and philanthropic aspirations, integrating storytelling through images and captions. Emphasize the use of narrative techniques to describe their intended journey, encouraging creativity and collaboration. This activity will lay the foundation for exploring the impact of their financial decisions while aligning with English standards.

Exhibition

Invite parents, peers, and community partners to a 'Story of a Billion' gallery walk, where students showcase their photo books and multimedia presentations. Each exhibit will narrate the financial choices and impacts made throughout the project, offering a visual and narrative exploration of their journey. Encourage attendees to engage with students, asking questions and providing feedback on the storytelling techniques, narrative structure, and decision-making processes highlighted in each project.
