Purpose

The purpose of the Creative Identity Workshop is to provide students with an opportunity to explore and express their unique identities through art. By engaging in self-reflection and utilizing various art techniques, students will create visual representations that highlight their personal interests, values, and experiences. This project fosters a sense of belonging and self-efficacy while encouraging students to think critically about their identities and how they can be communicated creatively. Through collaborative art-making and a community exhibition, students will connect with peers and families, reinforcing positive aspects of group identity.

Products

Students will create a personalized 'Favorite Things Collage' using a variety of materials such as magazine cutouts, drawings, and mixed media to visually represent their identity. Throughout the project, students will engage in self-reflection activities, creating sketches and drafts that explore their personal interests and values. By the end of the two-week period, each student will have a completed collage that they will present during a 'Gallery Walk,' sharing their creative process and the significance of their chosen elements with peers and family members.

Launch

Begin the Creative Identity Workshop with a "Personal Treasure Hunt" activity. Invite students to bring in three small items from home that they feel represent important aspects of their identity. Arrange a circle time where each student shares their items and explains their significance, fostering a sense of community and curiosity about each other's unique stories. This activity sets the stage for students to explore and express their identities through art in the subsequent sessions.

Exhibition

Students will participate in a 'Gallery Walk' exhibition where they showcase their 'Favorite Things Collage' artworks, creatively displayed around the classroom or school hallways. Family members and peers are invited to engage with the pieces, offering students the opportunity to explain their artistic choices and the personal significance behind them. This interactive exhibition not only highlights each student's unique identity but also fosters a sense of community and shared understanding.
