Purpose
The purpose of this project is to immerse students in the world of clothing design and cultural expression, fostering an understanding of materials, functions, and global diversity in fashion. Through hands-on activities and community partnerships, students will explore how clothing choices reflect personal identity and cultural influences. This project culminates in a "Red Carpet Day," where students bring their favorite outfits to school, showcasing their understanding and appreciation of fashion as a form of self-expression.
Learning goals
Students will explore the diverse materials used in clothing, understanding their textures, functions, and cultural significance. They will engage in hands-on activities to design and create clothing items, fostering creativity and self-expression. Through collaboration with community partners, students will gain insights into clothing construction and global fashion practices. They will develop skills in categorizing materials, setting personal style goals, and reflecting on their learning journey through interactive exhibitions and critiques. To culminate the project, students will participate in a "Red Carpet Day," where they bring their favorite outfit to school, celebrating their personal style and learning achievements.

Products
Students will collaboratively create a 'Cultural Clothing Quilt,' with each student contributing a fabric square inspired by clothing from different cultures, showcasing global diversity. They will also produce a 'Fabric Texture Poster,' attaching various fabric samples and labeling their textures and uses, demonstrating their understanding of material properties. Additionally, students will participate in a 'Red Carpet Fashion Parade,' where they bring their favorite outfits to school and present dolls or mannequins dressed in weather-appropriate outfits they designed, explaining the functionality and protective qualities of each ensemble.
