Purpose
This project aims to deepen students' understanding of cultural identity and community through immersive, hands-on exploration of cultural products and practices. By engaging with historical and modern texts, collaborating with community partners, and creating multimedia presentations, students will critically analyze and reflect on how cultural narratives shape perceptions of identity. The project fosters meaningful connections between students and diverse cultural perspectives, encouraging them to synthesize and present their insights creatively.
Learning goals
Students will develop the ability to identify and analyze cultural products and practices, understanding their significance and impact on identity and community. They will enhance their interpretive skills by synthesizing information from historical and modern texts, while improving their presentational abilities through multimedia storytelling. Additionally, students will cultivate interpersonal skills by engaging in cultural interactions and conversations, fostering a deeper appreciation for diverse narratives and perspectives.

Products
Throughout the project, students will create visual mind maps to connect key words and phrases from cultural texts, facilitating deeper analysis. They will also design multimedia presentations that explore cultural topics, integrating research and personal reflections. By the end, students will produce a digital timeline that traces the evolution of a cultural practice, showcasing historical texts, images, and their insights into its impact on identity and community.
Launch
Students will embark on a 'Cultural Scavenger Hunt' at local museums or cultural centers, where they will seek out artifacts and information related to cultural products and practices. They will document their findings through photos and notes, which will serve as the foundation for their multimedia presentations. This immersive activity will spark curiosity and set the stage for deeper exploration of cultural influences on identity and community.
Exhibition
Students will organize a 'Global Gallery Walk' where they set up interactive stations to showcase their multimedia presentations, cultural artifacts, and stories. Each station will feature visual mind maps, digital timelines, and reflective journals, allowing visitors to engage with the students' research and insights. Community partners, including librarians and guest speakers, will be invited to facilitate discussions, enriching the exhibition with diverse perspectives and cultural narratives.
