Emotions with Bluey: Feeling Fun Fiesta!
Purpose
The purpose of this project is to help Pre-k students develop a foundational understanding of emotions through engaging, hands-on activities. By interacting with Bluey characters and using art and play, students will learn to recognize, name, and express basic emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger, fear, and surprise. The project aims to foster emotional awareness and communication skills, enabling students to relate to others and express their feelings both verbally and non-verbally. Each day, students will explore essential questions that deepen their understanding of emotional expression. Through storytelling, games, and creative expression, students will build confidence in identifying and sharing emotions in a supportive and playful environment.
Learning goals
Students will learn to recognize and name basic emotions such as happy, sad, angry, scared, and surprised. They will use verbal and non-verbal communication to express their feelings and understand how to interpret emotions in others. Each day, they will explore essential questions about emotional expression and recognition. Through storytelling, art, and play, students will connect with Bluey characters to explore emotional situations and develop empathy. They will create and share personal stories, enhancing their ability to express emotions creatively and confidently.

Products
Students will engage daily with essential questions to guide their understanding as they create an 'Emotion Storybook,' writing and illustrating short stories with Bluey characters that focus on recognizing and expressing emotions. Each student will compile a 'Feelings Photo Album' with facial expressions and body gestures for different emotions, presenting these to the class. Throughout the week, they will contribute to an 'Emotion Expression Wall' with drawings or photos, receiving peer feedback to refine their expressions. These products will be shared during the 'Storybook Sharing Circle' and 'Story Time Reflection' sessions, showcasing their understanding and creativity.
Launch
Begin the project with a 'Storybook Picnic' where students bring their favorite stuffed animals to a circle and listen to a Bluey story. Each day, introduce one of the essential questions to guide discussion and activities, helping students focus on recognizing and expressing emotions. Encourage students to use their toys to act out the emotions of the characters, fostering an engaging and interactive experience that sets the stage for exploring emotions through play and storytelling.
Exhibition
During the 'Storybook Sharing Circle,' students will present their 'Emotion Storybooks' and demonstrate how they used Bluey characters to explore emotions. Each day, incorporate essential questions to guide the exhibition, such as "How can we use our faces and bodies to show how we feel?" and "What are some ways we can tell how others are feeling without using words?" Students will also showcase their 'Feelings Photo Album' and 'Emotion Expression Wall,' encouraging feedback and reflection on their emotional expressions. This exhibition will celebrate students' creativity and understanding of emotions through storytelling and artistic expression.
