Purpose

The purpose of this project is to provide students with an engaging opportunity to practice and refine their Spanish language skills by recounting a personal travel experience using the past tense. Through creating a video travel vlog, students will enhance their vocabulary, improve sentence construction, and gain cultural insights related to Spanish-speaking countries. This hands-on project fosters deeper learning by encouraging students to reflect on their experiences, share their stories with others, and actively participate in a collaborative and interactive learning environment.

Learning goals

Students will enhance their ability to narrate past events in Spanish by using the past tense accurately, incorporating both regular and irregular verbs. They will expand their travel-related vocabulary and improve their storytelling skills through the creation of a personal travel vlog. Additionally, students will gain insights into the cultural nuances of Spanish-speaking countries, enriching their understanding of the language and its context.

Products

Students will create a video recording using Screencastify, where they narrate a past trip in Spanish, utilizing travel-related vocabulary and past tense verbs. Throughout the week, they will draft and revise their scripts, focusing on integrating cultural insights from Spanish-speaking countries. The final product will be showcased during a 'Spanish Travel Vlog Premiere' and uploaded to a 'Digital Storytelling Gallery' for broader community engagement and feedback.

Launch

Kick off the project with an interactive virtual tour of a popular Spanish-speaking destination using online resources. Encourage students to take notes on what interests them most about the location, including cultural aspects, landmarks, and local customs. Follow this with a brainstorming session where students share their own memorable trip experiences, setting the stage for their travel vlogs.

Exhibition

Students will record their travel stories using Screencastify, showcasing their Spanish language skills and creativity. Host a 'Spanish Travel Vlog Premiere' event, inviting classmates and guests to experience the videos in a film festival-like setting. Additionally, create a 'Digital Storytelling Gallery' online, allowing peers, family, and friends to view and comment on the students' work, fostering a broader community engagement.
Plan
Week 1 Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5
Activities
Day 1: Launch the project with an interactive virtual tour of a Spanish-speaking destination. Students will take notes on interesting cultural aspects, landmarks, and local customs. Initiate a brainstorming session where students share personal memorable trip experiences and begin drafting their video scripts in Spanish, focusing on past tense verbs and travel-related vocabulary.
Day 2: Conduct a workshop on constructing sentences in the past tense, including regular and irregular verbs. Provide examples and practice exercises that relate to travel scenarios. Students will incorporate this learning into their scripts, identifying areas where past tense can enhance storytelling.
Day 3: Facilitate a peer review session where students exchange scripts and provide feedback using a rubric focused on vocabulary use, sentence structure, and cultural references. Students will revise their scripts based on peer feedback, emphasizing clarity and creativity.
Day 4: Organize a session for students to practice their script delivery, focusing on pronunciation and fluency. Encourage them to use Screencastify to record a draft version of their video, which they will review for self-assessment. Students will identify areas for improvement in narrative flow and language accuracy.
Day 5: Finalize video recordings with Screencastify, incorporating all revisions and enhancements. Host a 'Spanish Travel Vlog Premiere' rehearsal, where students present their final videos to a small group for last-minute feedback. Prepare the Digital Storytelling Gallery for uploading and sharing.
