Word Play Wonderland

This RPLC unit is designed to spark curiosity and engagement through the developmental interest in word play of fourth and fifth graders. This unit begins with discovery of the different types of word play and the reasons for using it. It allows students to learn about and use various literary devices, including simile, metaphor, personification, imagery, and alliteration. Throughout this unit, they will write books of word play about their project content. They will also gain an understanding of the role of word play in author's craft by reading novels as book clubs. At the end of the unit, the students will publish and share their word play book, a writing piece of choice, as well as a book review of the novel studied.
