Purpose

This project aims to guide teen moms in exploring and understanding their multifaceted identities beyond motherhood, fostering personal growth through self-reflection and creative expression. By engaging in hands-on activities and collaborative discussions, students will examine their personality traits, values, and priorities, while developing a deeper understanding of how these elements contribute to their unique self-concept and self-esteem. Through this exploration, participants will gain insights into balancing their roles and nurturing their development, ultimately crafting a personal narrative that celebrates their individuality and resilience.

Students will craft a 'Character Traits Mobile' using various materials to symbolize different aspects of their personality and identity, which will be displayed as a kinetic art installation for peers to interact with and reflect upon. They will also assemble an 'Identity Scrapbook' documenting their personal development through photos, drawings, and written reflections, presenting their unique stories in a display. Additionally, students will construct a 'Life Balance Wheel' to visually represent how they balance different aspects of their lives, sharing insights with peers. They will design a 'Values Tree' with leaves representing their core values, showcasing how these values shape their identity and growth. Lastly, students will assemble a 'Life Story Box' with objects and mementos representing significant moments in their personal development, to be presented at the 'Journey of Self' storytelling event.

Launch

Kick off the learning experience with a 'Personal Growth Adventure' day, where students engage in interactive team-building activities that mimic real-life scenarios related to personal development. These activities will prompt students to reflect on their strengths, areas for growth, and how they navigate their identities as individuals and mothers. This immersive experience sets the stage for the project by fostering a supportive community atmosphere and encouraging self-exploration from the outset.

Exhibition

Students will host a 'Portraits of Growth' gallery, showcasing visual representations of their personal development journeys, highlighting key concepts like self-esteem, values, and character traits. This will be complemented by a 'Journey of Self' storytelling event, where students share narratives about balancing their identities as individuals and mothers. Additionally, a 'Self-Concept Collage' workshop will display collages that represent their self-concept and identity, inviting peers and teachers to explore and discuss these creative expressions.
